The private dock is one of the most useful parts of the property, but a successful arrival starts before the trailer or boat reaches Marathon. Confirm the vessel’s real dimensions, the current harbor conditions and the reservation rules with the property manager.
Confirm the boat, not the brochure
The dock structure is approximately 25 feet, with roughly 40 feet of usable dockage when permitted overhang is considered. That does not automatically mean every 40-foot boat is suitable. Send the property manager the vessel’s length overall, beam, draft, outboard or platform overhang and any special shore-power needs before booking.
A calm arrival sequence
- Review the approach in daylight using current navigation information.
- Rig lines and fenders before entering the final approach.
- Assign one person to communicate from the dock; everyone else stays clear of pinch points.
- Approach at the slowest speed that still allows control, accounting for wind and current.
- Secure the boat, stop engines and inspect every contact point before unloading.
Leave room for weather
Use enough fenders for the hull shape and set spring lines that limit forward and aft movement without creating excessive strain. Recheck the tide and lines after the boat has settled. Never assume a line arrangement that worked at noon will remain correct overnight.
From catch to kitchen
The fish-cleaning station, deep freezer and commercial ice maker are meant to simplify the end of a fishing day. Keep scraps out of the harbor unless lawful, rinse the station after use and follow all current fishery rules. The kitchen and outdoor dining areas make it easy to turn the day’s catch into dinner without leaving the house.
